Research in the field of Roman Archaeology
Fund for Roman Archaeology: grant for research in the field of Roman Archaeology (all aspects of material culture) in the period from the 1st century BC to the end of the 5th century AD in north-western Europe, both inside and outside the Roman border, where the relationship with the Roman Empire must be demonstrable.
Maximum grant amount: €5,000.
Faculty of Archaeology: researchers, PhD candidates and students.
- You can apply for a grant for technical support (drawing, photography, other illustration and reconstruction techniques, digitisation), research (dating, material analysis, sub-studies by specialists, experimental research), fieldwork expenses, publication expenses and contributions for file retrieval, archival research and making reconstructions.
- You must be a student or a PhD candidate at Leiden University or have a paid appointment of at least 0.4 fte.
- The project start date must not precede the submission deadline.
- You must submit a final and financial report to LUF within two months of completing the project, after which the grant will be paid.
- The results of the research should become generally accessible through a publication, dissertation or digital archive.

Faculty of Humanities: bachelor and master students, PhD candidates and researchers China Studies and Asian Studies.

- Fund to promote the study of China: grant for research, organising an academic meeting or participation in an academic conference, e.g. the AAS Annual Conference.
- Maximum grant amount participation in a conference: Europe € 750; outside Europe € 1,500.
- Maximum grant amount organising an academic meeting: for a one-day event: € 1,500: for a multi-day event: € 3,000.

Faculty of Humanities: master students, PhD candidates and researchers max. 5 years after their PhD, in the field of China Studies.
- The starting point for the project is an institutional definition of Chinese studies: China or the sinophone world, including the Chinese diaspora (with, for example, areas of expertise such as Chinese history, sociology of China and education of the languages of China).

Preparation for PhD research in Art History
Camino Laurent van Vugt Fund: €12,000 grant to write a research proposal at the Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society (LUCAS) in preparation for NWO's PhD programme. Period: September to November.
You live in the Netherlands and have successfully completed a (research) master's degree in Art History.
- The research proposal to be written is in preparation for NWO's PhD programme.
- The research focuses on the history of early modern art, architecture or material culture and is interdisciplinary in nature.
- Where possible, the research has a relation to the Spanish-speaking region.

Maximum grant amount: €1,000.
Faculty of Humanities: researchers, PhD candidates and students of the Institute for Philosophy (researchers without travel funding and PhD candidates have priority).
- You have a paid appointment of at least 0.4 fte at Leiden University or you must be a PhD candidate at Leiden University. Students are eligible for this grant in exceptional cases.
- A maximum of one application will be granted to each applicant per year.
- The project start date must not precede the submission deadline.
