Chair for Central European Studies finds new home at LUF
The Austrian Studies Fund was established with a festive gathering in the Faculty Club on Friday afternoon, 23 June. This fund is the successor of the Austrian Studies Foundation and will continue and expand the program of activities of the Central European Studies chair at Leiden University, which was established in 1992.

Political scientist Juan Masullo awarded LUF grant for research on anti-mafia culture
Political scientist Juan Masullo receives a grant from the Elise Mathilde Fund (Leiden University Fund) to conduct his research project ‘Forging an Anti-Mafia Culture: Observational and Experimental Evidence from Italy’. Masullo aims to find out what ordinary Italians think of organised crime and to generate insights as to how to foster an anti-mafia culture.

The Leiden University Fund (LUF) Committee for Academic Expenditure (CWB) has an annual project grant round in March for teaching and research projects up to € 35,000. The resources come from the named funds of the LUF, the project grants funds of Stichting Praesidium Libertatis I and from the collaboration of the LUF with the Gratama-Stichting, Stichting Elise Mathilde Fonds en Stichting Verpakking en Milieu.

Praesidium Libertatis Grant 2020
This year, for the very first time, the Leiden University Fund (LUF) is offering young talented researchers the opportunity to receive a grant from the Praesidium Libertatis I Foundation. By doing so, the LUF aims to help them (further) develop innovative and original research ideas and thus also to open the door to larger grants.

Lustrum and Snouck Hurgronje Grant 2020
The first annual Snouck Hurgronje Grant for interfaculty research or teaching projects was awarded in 2019. This year, the LUF has decided to combine the application procedure for this grant with the procedure for the LUF Lustrum Grant, which is also intended for interfaculty and socially relevant projects.
